An update of where yesterday closed ahead of the next session: markets closed higher yesterday; S&P 500 closed the day at 4,135.35, having gained 1.96%. Dow Jones ended the session at 33,826 after a 1.57% gain.
Trading in the US will continue today in around a hour time, meanwhile European markets have struggled to gain ground and are now trading lower midway through the session. Upbeat Asia-Pacific markets ended today higher as Nikkei ascends by 1.4%, reaching 28,856.
3Rd quarter earnings season is mostly over, with FirstEnergy Corp & Gaming and Leisure Properties, Inc. releasing their earnings reports just this week.
Uptick coincides with some positive signs published earlier as United States Initial Jobless Claims beat the 248,000 projections, with 230,000.
On a negative note, the market received some disappointing news as following a previous reading of 0.8%, Pending Home Sales in United States released yesterday at 14:00 UTC fell short of the 0.5% figure expected by analysts with an actual reading of -5.2%. GDP in United States fell short of market expectations (two) with a reading of 1.1, continuing the decline from the previous figure of 2.6.
Also worthy of note, United States Core PCE Price Index (MoM) (Mar) will be released today at 12:30 UTC.
While most assets did well yesterday, some did better than others as Communication Services Select Sector SPDR Fund trades at $59.39 having gained 5.81%. IShares MSCI USA Quality Factor ETF (up 2.36%) is also performing well.
Yesterday's bullishness contained stragglers as noticeable risk-on sentiment wasn't enough to prevent iShares Trust – iShares iBonds Dec 2021 Term Treasury ETF giving up 1 cents, or 0.04%, before ending the session at $25.35.
